Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334 Results of Review of Mechanical Systems Which Enter and Exit Containment - NUREG 0578, Section 2.1.4 Gentlemen:

We have completed our review of all mechnical systems which enter and exit the containment structure to determine whether they have been properly categorized as essential or nonessential. The attached table presents a list of the essential systems and penetration numbers for two situations:

1.) after initiation of Containment Isolation, Phase A (CIA), and 2.) after initiation of Containment Isolation, Phase B (CIB) .

The review of the mechanical systems indicates that no recategorization of systems is necessary, and therefore, no modifications to the containment isolation design is required.

If you have any questions concerning this response, please contact my office.

Very truly yours, Oy b C. N. Dunn Vice President, Operations ho37 s

DUQUES!C LIGHT COMPANY Beaver Valley Power Station Unit No. 1 Essential and Nonessential Systems and Containment Penetrations (NUREG 0578 - Section 2.1.4)

Two lists are presented for essential and nonessential systems and containment penetrations. The first list are those sytems which are essential or nonessential following the initiation of a Safety Injection (SI) and Containment Isolation Phase A (CIA). The second list are those systems which are essential or nonessential following initiation of Containment Isolation Phase B (CIB). The bases for selection of the essential systems following a DBA were discussed in the Final Safety Analysis Report, Section 5.3 and Table 5.3-1. For a further discussion of these sytems, refer to the FSAR.
