As requested by Mr. Brian K. Grimes' letter of November 29, 1979, evacua-tion time estimates for evacuation of various areas around the :!cGuire Nuclear Station are provided in Attachment 1.
A color overlay map of the site is provided as Attachment 2.

Area 1 includes the WSW, SW, SSW, S, SSE, SE, ESE and the East sectors.
Population total is 318. There are no special facilities within this area. There are no population concentrations in this area.

Evacuation times based on studies of population density, road ca:acity to evacuation sites outside of the 10 mile zone, nearness of volunteer and municipal agencies responsible for the actual evacuation planning and experience and coments on the area Civil Preparedness Coordinator of N.C.
Primary evacuation methodsis via private automobile as tne area witnin McGuire's 10 mile Emergency Planning Zone is primarily a rural area inhabitated by a population not decendent on mass transpcrtation facilities.
Evacuation times for sectors outside of the 2 mile zone, incorpcrate transit times for personnel passing through to reacn tneir predesignatec evacuation site, thereby increasing traffic on evacuation routes and tne cistance to be traveled to exist evacuation zone.

Notification times are included for each 180 deg. and 90 deg. sector.
Present means of notification is via local radio, TV and weatner bureau facilities.
Notification is also via police (County, municipal, and State) anc iccal fire cecartments utilizing sirenes, bu11norns and house to nouse wardng.

There are no provisicr.s in the North Carolina Emergency Response Plan to evacuate people to evtcuation centers within the 10 mile zone for any purpose.
Evacuation of any area would proceed to predesigned evacuation centers located outside the 10 mile Emergency Planning Zone.
Evacuation times are calculated to evacuate only the required area, 2 mile, 5 mile,10 mile, and not for evacuees to physically reach a designated evacuation site 5.
Evacuation of schools is not included in Special Facilities. Bus and private auto transportation out of an evacuation zone from the schools in session or during special activities is provided and are close at hand.

Local civil defense acencies were consulted in precaring the above evacua-tion time estimates.
