-" Date: December 4,1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT--PNS-III-79-05 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of 1OSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.

The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known_ by IE staff as of this date.

Facility:

Union Electric Callavay Power Station, Units 1 and 2 Callaway County, Missouri

Subject:

BOMB THREAT At 2:00 p.m. on December 4,1979, the NRC Resident Inspector was notified by the licens.ee that a telephonic bomb threat had been received by a site Security Of ficer at 9:45 p.m. on Dece=ber 3,1979. The caller stated that a bomb would go off at 9:55 p.m. and that it was located in the middle of the plant site.

No detonation occurred and a cursory search did not reveal a device.

The licensee did not notify local law enforcement authorities but is notifying the local FBI.

There is no media interest and neither the licensee nor RIII will make a press release.

The Resident Inspector notified RIII at approximately 2:10 p.m., December 4,1979, the IAT (Chape11),and the offices of the administrative assistants for Chairman Hendrie and Co issioner Kennedy were notified by 2:35 p.m.

The State of Missouri vill be notified.

This Preliminary Notification is issued for information only and no further action 'oy IE is anticipated.

Callaway is a construction site that is approximately 51% co=plete.
