50-553/554 RESPONSIBLE BRANCH: Robert Benedict, LWR-2 The staff received a April 11, 1979 Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) report entitled Transverse Fault Beneath South CCW Trench in Unit 2 Turbine Building.. As per my April 17, 1979 memorandum, the NRC staff has thoroughly reviewed the detailed description of the CCW trench fault, the discussion of the fault's relationship to the regional geology and fault area mapping, as contained in the TVA report, and concurs with the conclusions reached therein.

The staff considers the CCW trench fault to be structurally associated with the formation of the Saltsville family of faults approximately 250 million years before present. Therefore, the staff considers the fault to be non-capable within the meaning of Appendix A to 10 CFR Part 100.
