Docket No. 50-339 101Jiarietta1 Street, Suite 3100' Atlanta,fGeorgia' '30303'
Dear Sir:
'In accordance with 10CFR50.SS(e), the NRC, Region II,.was notified on
-January 8,1979 that' the Nor.th Arina Unit 2 Axial Power Distribution Monitoring System '(APDMS) *provided' by' Westinghouse Electric Corporation does not account
- for the in-core moveable detector background signal when determining the axial-flux shape, Fj(z).
If a significant background signal were present during
. surveillance, the calculation'of Fj(z) would be non-conservative for values greater then 1.0.
m Vepco is currently working to determine the significance of this potential problem. Since this effort is not yet complete, you should consider this an
_ interim report.
The APDMS equipment is not yet operational and thus a delay of-a resolution will have no consequences. A final report will oe forthcoming subsequent to the_ completion of our work effort.
If you require any further information at this time, please contact us..
Very trul yours, Sam C. Gr
, Jr.
