Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region II 101 Marietta Street, Suite 3100 Atlanta, Georgia 30303 BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NO. 2 LICENSE NO. DPR-62 DOCKET NO. 50-324 CONFIRMATION: FACSIMILE FOR AN LMIATELY REPORTABLE EVENT (2-80-17)

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

This facsimile confirms the conversation between Mr. J. M. Brown and Mr. A. K.

Hardin of your office at 1910 on January 18, 1980.

While investigating a problem reported by a contract maintenance worker, an engineer found snubber 2SW-173SSil4 inoperable on December 28, 1979, and a trouble ticket was initiated to repair this snubber. The reactor was brought to power on January 1, 1980, and on January 18, 1980, it was discovered that the trouble ticket to repair this snubber had not been worked; therefore, the unit had been operated for 18 days with an identified inoperable snubber. The snubber was immediately repaired when the problem was detected.

This constitutes a reportable occurrence as defined in Technical Specifications 6.9.1.81.

Very truly yours, f
