Application for Renewal of SNM-1507.

y Gentlemen:
i General Atomic makes application for renewal of License No. Smi-1507.
L'e request that this renewal be for a period of ~hree years. Attached is a check in the amount of $150 to cover the cost of administration for this license renewal.
General Atomic has the continuing need to transport quantities of radioactive material and special nuclear material on a regular basis between General Atomic's sites located within the City of San Diego.
It had been determined in the past that a specific NRC SNM license was required, per 10 CFR 71.5, which would license General Atomic to possess special nuclear materials out-side the confines of its facilities during the material's transit. Accord-ingly the subject license was issued.
L'e now find that this license, which expires 12/31/79, requires renewal so that General Atomic may continue its activity under the current regulations. Safeguard license conditions affect-ing these limited shiptents on GAC vehicles are included in General Atomic Company's Part 70, Fundacental Nuclear Material Control Plan, Part 73, Phy-sical Protection Plans, etc.
No changes in these are needed at the current time.
L'e understand that changes in the regulations affecting transport of radio-active materials are forthcoming. The effective dates, however, of these new rules are uncertain.
This application is made and the required fees attached in this manner since the current NRC fee schedule does not seen to include as a category those special licensing situations as in this matter. This uatter has been discus-sed with the NRC's Tranportation Branch. Ue remain hopeful that a titel'/ re-newal for this license can be issued. Should there be any questions concerning this application and its need for extension, please direct tbeg jogthey er er-signed.
