The unclassified scope of work under this contract, entitled " Study of the Pattern and Ages of Post-Metamorphic Faults in the Northern Piedmont of Virginia and North Carolina" is as follows:
SCOPE OF PROPOSED THREE-YEAR TECHNICAL PROGRAM Develop a three-dimensional geologic framework of part of the Central 1.
Virginia Seismic Zone in terms of:
a) faults b) surfaces of aooreciable recidity contrast _
Complete a regional study of the tectonic framework of Triassic basins 2.
in Virginia and the relation of this framework to historical seismicity.
3.
Continue compilation and analysis of:
a) structures b) crustal heterogeneity in elastic properties for Virginia and adjacent areas in North Carolina.
Five objectives are proposed for the first year are as follows:
Geologic capping in the Central Virginia Seismic Zone in the vicinity 1.
of the Central Piedmont Lineament (Goochland and Cartersville 7-1/2' quadrangles).
Origin of the eastern Piedmont (Pownatan) gravity high and its possible 2.
relation to current seismicity in the Central Virginia Seismic Zone.
Geologic framework as related to seismicity at the eastern boundary of 3.
the Central Virginia Seismic Zone.
Tectonic framework of Triassic basins in Virginia and North Carolina.
4.
