Docket No. 50-368 Mr. William Cavanaugh, III Vice President, Generation and Construction Arkansas Power & Light Company P. O. Box 551 Little Rock, Arkansas 72203

Dear Mr. Cavanaugh:

By letter dated November 11, 1977, we requested that you review the alarm and control circuitry for the diesel generators at Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit No. 2, and provide us with information concerning possible nonalarmed conditions which night render the diesel generators incapable of automatic start. We also requested that you propose modifications that would correct any nonalarmed disabling conditions that were identified as a result of your review. By letter dated December 30, 1977, you submitted the results of your review.

Your submittal indicated that there were no nonalarmed conditions that could prevent automatic start of the diesels.

This is to advise you that we have reviewed your submittals and on the basis of our review, we conclude that the alarm and control circuitry for the diesel generators are adequate and should preclude occurrences of any nonalarmed conditions that could prevent automatic start of the diesel generators.

Our related evaluation is enclosed.

Sincerely, s

J
