Dear Mr. Grier:

NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-354/79-07 AND 50-355/79-07 NO. 1 AND 2 UNITS HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION We have received and reviewed the report of your inspection conducted on September 25-27, 1979.

The report was trans-mitted with your letter of October 26, 1979 and received on November 5, 1979.

Our response for the item of noncompli-ance is as follows:

The subject inspection identified an infraction regarding lack of complete adherence to Bechtel's Specific Work Plan /

Procedure, SWP/P-14, Revision 4.

The following corrective actions have been taken relative to this infraction:

1.

Corrective steps which have been taken by Bechtel and the results achieved:

a.

Field Engineering has initiated a log to assure weekly response to maintenance discrepancies re-ported by Quality Control.

'b.

The Resident Field Engineer (RFE) has provided es-timated completion dates to the Project Construc-tion Quality Control Engineer (PCQCE) regarding maintenance discrepancies, including four po-tentially nonconforming items (Nos. 21, 22, 23, and

24) on a maintenance inspection punchlist observed during NRC Inspections 50-354/79-7 and 50-355/79-7.

c.

The RFE is currently responding to the PCQCE on a weekly basis with " estimated completion dates" and 1833 185

" action taken."

This information is reflected in weekly issues of the maintenance acceptance punch-list maintained by the PCQCE.

Jobsite Quality Assurance has monitored corrective action progress, including review of the maintenance and inspection punchlist (weekly issue) to assure completion of the above corrective steps.

2.

Corrective steps which were/will be taken to avoid further items of noncompliance:

a.

All responsible personnel were reinstructed as to specific Work Plan / Procedure (SWP/P-14) requirements for weekly action.

b.

Compliance with Bechtel's Specific Work Plan /Proce-dure SWP/P-14 will be verified periodically by Qual-ity Assurance audits.

3.

The date when full compliance will be achieved:

All actions for this item were completed as of October 12, 1979.

Verification of full compliance was completed on October 22, 1979.
