Dear Mr. Kintigh:
On November 2, 1979 you sent a letter to me concerning the New Haven Nuclear Station application for construction permits now pending before the t!uclear Regulatory Commission.
In your letter you stated:
"...we believe that it is inappropriate to proceed with the review of the application at this time."
"We have directed our contractors and the NSSS supplier to place this project in a state of suspension..."
In view of your letter and because of a very heavy workload on the f,RC staff resulting from the TMI-2 accident, I have decided to suspend the NRC review of the New Haven application and have directed the staff to proceed only to the point necessary to ensure an orderly suspension.
We will establish a new schedule in consultation with you at such time as you wish to reactivate this project.
