Docket No. 70-2623 g

to Gentlemen:

On April 17, 1979, the Board and the parties in this proceeding were provided with copies of a Board Notification entitled "Information Relevant and Material to Licensing Board and Parties of Conmission Proceedings" dated April 11, 1979.

The Board Notification included a copy of the Order to Show Cause issued in Docket No. 71-6698 and dated April 6,1979 which suspended the general license to use Model No. NFS-4 casks for the shipment of spent fuel.

The Model No. NFS-4 cask is one of the two cask models acceptable to the NRC Staff for the shipment of spent fuel from the Oconee to the McGuire Facility.

The other cask design is the Model No. NLI-1/2 cask.

Enclosed for the further information of the Board and the parties is a letter dated December 12, 1913 to multiple addressees from William J. Dircks, Director, Office of Nuclear Material Material Safety and Safeguards.

That letter transmits an amended Certificate of Compliance for certain Model No. NFS-4 casks and an Order Amending Certificate and Terminating in Part Order to Show Cause. The Order permits renewed use of certain Model No. NFS-4 casks under appropriate conditions and restrictions.
