November 28, 1979 letter (NS-TMA-2167) from T. M. Anderson to A. T. Schwencer

Dear Mr. Keppler:

On November 29, 1979 commonwealth Edison Company reported by phone to Mr. J. E. Konklin of your office that the item reported was a 10 CFR 50.55(e) pplicable to Byron and Braidwood Stations and in Reference (a) was a reportable item.

The following report fulfills the reporting requirements under the Regulation.

Reference (a) contained Westinghouse commitments to the NRC Staff to review analytic and hardware long term solutions and to make recommendations to be included as part of a topical report which will be submitted to the NRC in mid-1980.

Reference (a) also included proposed interim solutions to be implemented by plants current 3y in operation.

Since the Byron and Braidwood units are a couple of years away from receiving operating licenses, Commonwealth Edison will not take any action on these units prior to the issuance of the Westinghouse topical report containing long term solutions.

Commonwealth Edison will continue to monitor Westinghouse's progress toward solutions and will follow interim changes made at its Zion Station.

Should it occur that Westinghouse does not propose long term solutions prior to Byron Station operation, Commonwealth Edison will ensure that proper interim changes are made to operating 80/7
