Subject:

Crystal River Unit 3 Docket No. 50-302 Operating License No. DPR-72 IE Bulletin 79-18 Audibility - High Noise Areas

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In our previous response to you, dated September 21, 1979, concerning Item 2 of the subject bulletin, we stated that an Engineering Study was being conducted and that a schedule for modification / installation of equipment could be determined upon its completion.

The Engineering Study has been completed and the modification /

installation of equipment, which includes the visual indicators for the identified very high noise areas, can be completed by March 12, 1980. This schedule includes engineering, purchasing of materials, and installation of all equipment.

Since Item 4 of NRC Bulletin 79-18 states that all corrective actions must be completed within 120 days of the Bulletin, which would be December 5, 1979, it is necessary for us to implement temporary administrative procedures until the modifications can be completed.

We have posted a guard at the doorway of the Auxiliary Building and require everyone to sign in and out of the building in the Auxilary Bu_ilding Access Log Book.

Should the alarm annunciate, it is the guard's duty to check the Auxiliary Building Access Log Book to assure that the building has been evacuated. If the log book indicates someone is still in the building, the guard will notify the ChemRad Section, who in turn will orgac. ate search for the missing individual (s).J a . c\ General Office 3201 inirty fourtn street soutn .
