FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATIONS NOVEMBER, 1979 In November, 1979 there were eight unit shutdowns (one continued from October, 1979, six automatically initiated reactor trips and one manual shutdown) and four major power reductions.

The Cycle I-II refueling outage continued until November 4 to repair an electrical connector on a rod control drive mechanism and to conduct core low power physics testing.

November 4, a unit shutdown resulted from a low steam generator level trip while transferring from main feed bypass valves to main feed valves.

November 5, a unit shutdown resulted from a feedwater regulating valve closing in " auto" causing a S/G lo-lo level trip.

November 5, the unit was administra-tively limited to 45% Reactor power to perform secondary system performance walkdown.

November 8, the unit was manually shutdown to repair RCP seals.

November 21, a unit shutdown resulted from a low steam generator level trip while transferring from main feed bypass valves to main feed valves.

Before the unit was returned on line, an additional unit shutdown resulted from speed control problems on lA SGFP.

November 22, the unit was limited to 70% Reactor power for core physics testing.

November 25, the unit was limited to 45% Reactor power to repair lA SGFP speed controls.

November 27, the unit was limited to 90% Reactor power to allow plant conditions to stabilize in order to perform moisture carryover test.

November 30, a unit shutdown resulted from a loss of SGFP suction pressure initiated by loss of L & N controller power supply which caused the condensate pump recirculation valve to fail open.

Before the unit could be returned on line, an additional unit shutdown resulted from a low steam generator level trip while transferring from main feed bypass valves to main feed valves.

The following significant safety-related maintenance was performed in November:

1.

Replaced the jacket cooling water pump and motor on 2C D/G.

2.

Performed a walkdown of freeze protection for safety-rel.ated systems.

3.

Replaced rupture disc on the recycle evaporator.

4.

Fabricated new cables for service water batteries.

7912270 38 7

5.

Replaced #1 and #2 seals on 1B RCP and #2 seal on 1C RCP.

6.

Repaired the Reactor cavity cump pump.

7.

Repaired bonnet leaks on the auxiliary spray valve.

8.

Performed a walkdown of snubbers in containment.

9.

Replaced the R21 vacuum pump.

10.

Reassembling 1C charging pump.

11.

Replaced bearings on 2B D/G turbocharger.
