20555 BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NO. 2 DOCKET No. 50-324 LICENSE NO. DPR-62 INFORMATION ON LOSS OF OFF-SITE POWER

Dear Mr. Ippolito:

In response to your letter dated September 18, 1979 requesting additional information on the loss of off-site power event at the 3runswick Steam Electric Plait, Unit No. 2, which occurred on March 26, 1975, Carolina Power & Light Company supplies the following information.

Sections "A" and "C" of the Request for Additional Information are not applicable to the Brunswick Unit 2 event. Our response to Section "3"

follows:

1.

Normal power was off for approximately four (4) minutes. The emergency buses were reenergized within ten seconds due to the automatic starts of the diesel generators.

2.

The unit was in cold shutdown at the time of the loss of off-site power event.

3.

Full power was restored in approximately four (4) minutes by manual actions.

4.

The oscillograph at the Castle Hayne 230 Kv Substation showed an approximate 507. loss of voltage on the A-Phase.

The oscillograph at the Brunswick plant was not recording at the }bk

There is no indication from available data that there was any frequency decay experienced.
