May.2, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT--

PNS-t9-41 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.

The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

FACILITY:

South Carolina Electric and Gas Company Virgil C. Summer Unit 1 Docket No. 50-395 Jenkinsville, South Carolina

SUBJECT:

BOMB THREAT On April 30, 1979, at 3:00 p.m.,

site security personnel received a call from the Fairfield County Sheriff's office advising that a call had been received from an individual alledging association with Columbia Energy Services Depart-ment (CESD).

This individual alledged that "some female" had called at approximately 2:15 p.m. and gave the following message:

"a bomb will go off at the V. C. Summer Station" A search of the facility was conducted with negative results. Media interest is not expected and a press release is not planned.

This site construction progress is reported as 70 percent complete and there is fuel on-site.

The State of South Carolina has been notified.

The IAT has been notified.

NRC, Region II (Atlanta) received initial telephone notification of this occurrence from the site representative at 5:00 p.m. on April 30, 1979; additional information was receive _ at 11:00 a.m.

on May 1, 1979.
