PNS-79-47 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.

The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

FACILITY:

Virginia Electric and Power Company Surry, Unit Nos. 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-280 and 50-281 Surry County, Virginia

SUBJECT:

B0MB THREAT At 3:30 p.m. on May 10, 1979, the telephone switchboard operator on-site for the Daniel Construction Company received a telephone call from an un-known male who stated, "your warehouses are going to tilow up".

The licensee evacuated the construction personnel working in the two Daniel Construction Company warehouses outside the protected area, as well as the Virginia Electric and Power Ccinpany (VEP0) employees working in the VEPO warehouse inside the protected area.

Search procedures were initiated at the three warehouses with negative results.

The licensee notified the Surry County Sheriff.

The FBI was on-site.

There has been media interest.

A news release is not planned by the licensee or NRC.

The Commonwealth of Virginia has been informed.

The IAT was notified.

Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the on-site IE Safeguards Inspector at 4:30 p.m. on May 10, 1979.
