PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION May 14, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT - PNS-79-48 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.
FACILITY:
Virginia Electric and Power Company Surry, Unit Nos. I and 2 Docket Nos. 50-280 and 50-281 Surry County, Virginia
SUBJECT:
BOMB THREAT At 4:00 a.m. on May 12, 1979, a call was received on site, in the health physics change room.
An unknown male, stated "You better leave that room, there is a bomb in there" The switchboard operator said that there were no incoming calls at that time; it is believed the call must have originated inside the plant.
Search procedures were initiated with negative results.
The licensee notified the Surry County Sheriff.
The FBI has been notified.
Media interest is anticipated.
A news release is not planned by the licensee or tne NRC. The Commonwealth of Virginia has been informed.
The IAT was notified.
Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence from the Resident Inspector at 4:45 a.m. on May 12, 1979.
