PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION April 13,1979 PRELIfilNARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT--
PNS-79-33 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

PLANNED PEACEFUL DEM0flSTRATION Several organizations have planned a peaceful demonstration or. Saturday April 14, 1979 at the Indian Point Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2, 3.
According to the licensee, it has been reported to them that an estimated 2000 to 3000 demonstrators are expected to arrive at the site. Extensive publicity has been given to the planned demonstration and it is expected that many of the participants will arrive in chartered buses from different cities in New York and the surrounding States.
Local, County and State law enforcement authorities will assign personnel to the immediate vicinity of the site and to adjacent roads leading to the site.
Strengthened physical protection measures will be employed by the licensee through the assignment of additional security force personnel.
Media interest is expected because of the publicity given to the planned demonstration and the interest in the nuclear industry.
The State of New York is aware of the domunstration.
A press release is not planned by the licensee or NRC.
