Dear Mr. Seyfrit:

This is in response to a request trom Mr. E. L. Jordan, Assistant Director, Office of Inspection and Enforcement, for additional inform-ation regarding the Fort Calhoun Station's steam generator feedvater piping veld inspection which was discussed at a meeting on October 23, 1979, in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Omaha Public Power District vill shutdown the Fort Calhoun Station on October 31, 1979, to perform ultrasonic inspection on the velds connecting the safe-end to the downstream elbow and the safe-end to piping for both steam generators. In the event that more than one lead inspector is reouired, they will be trained and qualified similar to that of the presently trained and qualified inspector.

Written and approved test procedures, with acceptance criteria, vill be used.

In the event any significant indications are observed while performing the ultrasonic inspections, the plant will be taken to a cold shutdown condition for further evaluation of such indications, as required by OI&E Bulletin 79-13. '

In the event that these evaluations confirm the presence of cracking in the feedwater piping or velds, appropriate reports vill be submitted to your office and corrective actions will be taken in accordance with results of discussions with members of your staff.
