Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In response to your letter of September 27, 1979, transmitting IE Bulletin 79-24 concerning frozen lines on safety-related systems, Carolina Power & Light Company submits the following response.

An evaluation of all safety-related process, instrument, and sampling lines at the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant has determined that these lines will not freeze during a period of extren;e cold.

Ihrweve r, during this review, it was found that the freeze protection pnwer supply for the condensatr storage tank (CST) pumps, motors, and instruments was marginally sized. Therefore, t he heat tracing system f or t he CST is b<'ing upgrade i f rom a %TA rating to a 7.3FVA rating to provide addttional ope r a t i <.na l ' ara n.

Thi! codification will be completed by Ife c ca.be r 1, 1970, which is prior to extensive cold weather in the plant vicinity.

We trust that this information s a t i s t i".s the request of IE Bulletin 79-24.

Yours very truly, C -L( l l '.-
