This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.

The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

Facility Virginia Electric and Power Company Surry, Unit Nos. I and 2 Docket Nos. 50-280 and 50-281 Surry, Virginia

Subject:

BOMB THREAT At 5:05 a.m. on June 27, 1979, an unidentified male called the Wackenhut security office at the Surry construction site and stated, "Your place is going to blow up in a half an hour".

The Wackenhut security office was evacuated, searched, and nothing was found.

No other facilities were evacuated or searched.

Unit No. 1 is not operating due to steam generator replacement.

Unit 2 is not operating due to steam generator replacement.

Media interest is not anticipated.

A news release is not planned by the licensee or the NrtC. The licensee notified the Surry County Sheriff.

The Commonwealth of Virginia has been informed.

The IAT was notified.

Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the Station Manager at 8:45 a.m. on June 27, 1979.
