DOCKET N0. 50-289 The enclosed inspection report and transmittal memorandum from our Region I (Newark) Office, relating to an inspection of the subject facility on January 9-11, 1973, are forwarded for infomation.
The enclosures provide information on Metropolitan Edison Company's current plans relating to preoperational testing of the Core Flood System.
In this regard, it should be noted that the test program proposed by Metropolitan Edison Compa1y is considerably less than that which has been perfomed at earlier ct.crent generation PWR facilities.
In an attempt to promote standard testing requirements for all facilities, we have requested our Technical Assistance Branch to develop a proposed position on the acceptable testing that should

be perfomed on Core Flood / Accumulator systems. We plan to forward this proposed position to DL for review and possible adoptian as the Regulatory recomended testing program for such systems at appropriate facilities.
