Scismic Qualification of the 'IF.I-l Stenr. Generator Level and Pressure Indications Contrary to our letter of February 27, 1976, ve have deterr.ined that tiie l

correct designation and type for the Steam Generator (OG) level and precoure i

trancmitters are us follovs:

Foxboro Type:

611GS-DS1 vith 610 /dl power unit The above ticnuuitters, with i,he exception of the 50 full range level trant.aittor, are the types that have been seisr.ically qualified. Although the fu13 range level tranct:itter is not qualified, it is not needed since adequate level indication is provided by the startup and operating rance indicatorn, therefore, we do not intend to qualify this transmitter.

It has also been deter =ined that all ot.2er necessary support structures, cablen, cabic trays, ce.binets, power supplies, and sources of power are seismically adequate in that, either they were, originally seis=ically designated and designed or cre identical to ec ponents in the RPS systen or other systces which vere qualified, e.nd the power source is ultimetc3y a class 3E power For example, p:ver to these tranncitters (presnure and level) is source.

routed through the IQS /I;*;I eabinets and these cabincts sre identical to the RPS cabinets which are scis=iically qualified.

It should be noted that the 2;I/ICS cabinets contain the following instrumentation associated with SG pressure and Icy l:

.a We have alco determine'l thst this ercrcency action, ifhequired, can t.

,aici:1y accomplished, therefore, it vould not impair our ability to conduct a p1' ant cooldown un described in Supp3ement 2, l' art IX of the Ty.I-1 FSAR.

We ultimstely intend to accomplish the necessary desica chtnges to encurc that, 1, _a minimum, steam concrator Icyc1 indication in iffediatel'y availabic l

followin6 a scismic event without need for the above operator action. Similar 7,'

action for SG prensure vill not be taken since this purameter is not used for p

control during plant cooldown.

During the conduct of our review, two deficiencies vere noted. Some of the SG pressure and level indication cable trays vere found not to be tied down to their supports and the 10iI/ICS cabinet may not be adequately en' chored to its foundation.

Sumary In light of the preceeding discuccion, it can be seen that except for the two above noted deficiencics there is nothing which would adversely affect the sei=mic qualifiention of the steam generator pressure and level indications.

Further, it should be noted that tying down of the SG prennure and Icycl indication trays is anticipated &f a.

to be completed by 1.ay 30,1976, b.

nore adequate anchoring of the EHI/ICS cabinet vill need to be accomplished when the plant is shut-down, and attempts vill be made to accomplish this during this refueling outage, and c.

although step b. above may not be co=pleted until the next convenient shutdown (i.e. a shutdown of 72 hours8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
or = ore), continued operation at rated power is, justified in light of the folloving pointo of information 1.

the probability of a simultaneous seis:iic event and complete failure of the redundant SG indication circuits is extreme 3y low, and 2.

even if the events of c.1. above vere to occur simultaneously, there exists a back up means for conducting a plant cooldown (ref: DiI-PSAR, Supplement 2, Part IX).
