The information presented is as initially received witnout verification or evaiuation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

RADIOGRAPHIC INDICATION IN STEAM GENERATOR N0ZZLE TO FEEDWATER LINE WELDS The licensee had previously identified radiographic indications in tne steam generator (SG) nozzle to feedwater pipe welds on both SG's (Ref. PN0-79-166).
The licensee re-radiographed these welds on both generators using an improved technique.
The licensee and Region III inspectors observed lack of penetra-tion in radiographs on both welds.
These indications were not observed in the radiographs obtained of the same welds in 1972 because the earlier radiographs were not of comparable quality.
The licensee nas decided to remove and replace the feedwater to nozzle transition pipe on the "A" SG.
Based on the metal-lurgical examination of tnese welds, the licensee will make a decision on replacement of "B" transition pipe.
Region III inspectors will be onsite to inspect the work in progress.
The plant is presently in a refueling outage.
The replacement of the transition pipe will not extend the length of tne outage, however, tne outage has been extended until the middle of July because of problems with the main generator and turbine.
The licensee plans to make a press release.
The State of Wisconsin is being notified.
Region III was informed of the licensee's plans on June 19, 1979 at 5:00 p.m.
