PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION June 15, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-166 L
This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

RADIOGRAPHIC INDICATION IN STEAM GENERATOR N0ZZLE TO FEEDWATER LINE WEI.DS Preliminary review of radiographic examinations of the steam generator (SG) nozzle to feedwater pipe welds revealed radiographic indications in both the "A" and "B" SG.
The indication in the "B" SG are straight line and are located at the 7, 12, and 4 o' clock position on the sixteen inch pipe.
The length of the indications are about six inches at 7 o' clock, three inches at 12 and 4 o' clock and are five to eight percent of wall thickness.
The "A" SG has similar indications but not to the same degree as the "B" SG.
Ultrasonic examination of the welds earlier in the week showed no indications.
The licensee is obtaining additional radiographs with film the same as the baseline radiographs for comparisons. A RIII Piping Specialist Inspector will be dispatched to the site to review radiographs and other licensee's actions.
The plant is presently in a refueling mode.
The licensee does not plan to make a press release at this time.
A press release will be considered by RIII based on further radiography and the inspector's evaluation.
The State of Wisconsin is being notified.
RIII was informed of this event at 9:30 a.m. on June 15, 1979.
