Subject:

r.EPORTED OVEREXPOSURES - RADIOGRAPHERS AT NINE MILE POINT On June 14, 1979, NRC Region I (Philadelphia) was informed by a con-sultant for the licensee that the film badges of four of their radio-graphers indicated exposures of 3.18, 3.29, 3.52 and 4.19 rem for the period April 1 - May 15,1979.

Previously, on May 18, 1979, the licensee had reported that one individual had received an exposure of 3.79 rem.

These exposures were received while working at Nine Mile Point Nuclear Power Station.

The licensee believes that these exposures did not result from the uw of their radiographic devices but from radiation from reactor piping.

Region I conducted an inspection at the licensee's office in Hartford, Connecticut on May 31, 1979 and will conduct an inspection at Nine Mile Point during the week of June 18-22.

Media interest is expected because of contacts by a Syracuse newspaper.

The State of New York has been informed.

A press release is not planned by the licensee or NRC.

NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by telephone ' rom the licensee at 11:15 a.m. on June 14, 1979.
