PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-158 This oreliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The inforrotion presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Philadelphia Electric Company Peach Bottom Unit 3 (DN 50-278)
Subject:
REACTOR BLOWDOWN DUE TO RELIEF VALVE LIFTING At 2:40 p.m. on June 13, 1979, a Target-Rock relief valve lifted and remained open causing a reactor blowdown to 135 psig.
The valve reseated at 4:15 p.m.
The reactor was increasing power following a schedule mair.tenance outage and was at approximately 92 percent power and 995 psig pressure when the event occured.
At 2:50 p.m. the reactor was manually scramned and is presently being cooled down.
The licensee plans to replace the valve and commence startup on June 17, 1979.
No release to the environment occurred ar a result of this event.
Media interest is expected because of sensitivity to nuclear plant issues.
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been informed.
A press release is planned by the licensee.
