SUBJECT:
INDUSTRIAL FATALITY On June 18 about 1:00 a.m., an employee of the Daniel Construction Company fell from scaffolding while working in the reactor vessel.
The worker was completing final preparations for reactor vessel internals installation which was scheduled to begin June 18.
The worker died when he fell onto small diameter penetrations projecting upward through the bottom of the reactor vessel.
The Summer plant is under construction and 80% complete; new fuel is on site.
There has been no media interest. A news release is not planned by the licensee or NRC. OSHA was notified by the licensee and by Region II.
The State of South Carolina has been informed.
Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the licensee at 8:45 a.m. on June 18.
