IE BULLETIN NO. 79-02, REVISION 1, " PIPE SUPPORT BASE PLATE DESIGNS USING CONCRETE EXPANSION ANCHOR BOLTS" - PRELIMINARY TEST RESULTS The purpose of this preliminary notification is to update a previous notification on the same topic.
Preliminary Notification (PNO-79-215) dated July 5, 1979, describes the preliminary results of the testir.g of concrete expansion anchor bolts at Duane Arnold.
A meeting was held on July 6, 1979, in Bethesda, Maryland, with representatives of NRC and Iowa Electric to discuss the results of testing and the proposed correction for pipe supports not meeting seismic design require-ments.
The licensee provided results of additional testing which identified a test failure rate of approximately 15% for piping supports in a sample of 34 supports.
The licensee is evaluating operability of a*fected safety relateo systems and the inference on the balance of plant systems as a consequence of the test failure rate.
The results of this analysis along with an evaluation of the effect of anchor bolt installation in concrete block walls are committed to be reported to the NRC on July 10, 1979.
An Immediate Action Letter was issued to the licensee on July 6, 1979, to confirm these commitments.
