PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION June 27, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE PNO-79-194 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

SUBJECT:
UNSCHEDULED LOAD REDUCTION At 5:20 p.m., on June 26, 1979, a steam leak from a one-half inch fitting was discovered on a Unit 3 turbine valve pressure tap.
The fitting was on one of two cest taps provided to install gauges for measurement purposes. Reactor power was reduced to about 20 percent w'ile repairs were completed.
Power was increasing at 7:30 p.m.,
June 26 and the Unit is now operati.
at full load.
-8 Maximum airborne radiation 1cvels in the turbine building were 5X10 microcur-ies per ml and were predominately short-lived Cesiums and Rubidiums. These levels are less than 10% of MPC's.
Activities returned to normal after the fitting was sealad.
No increases were noted on vent and stack monitors.
Unit 2 operation is at 100 percent power.
Media interest is expected because of sensitivity to nuclear plant issues.
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of Maryland have been informed.
A p ess release is not planned by the licensee nor the NRC.
NRC, Region I (Philadelphia) received notification of this occurrence by telephone call from the Resident Inspector at 5:55 p.m., June 26, 1979. This infsrmation is current as of 7:00 a.m.,
