PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION September 14, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-422 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Commonwealth Edison Company Braidwood Units 1 and 2 (DN 50-456 and DN 50-457)
Subject:
TERMINATION OF CONSTRUCTION AT BRAIDWOOD On September 12, 1979, Commonwealth Edison Company announced the termination'of construction of Braidwood Uni.ts 1 and 2.
The reason for this action is stated to be economic considerations stemming from the Illinois Commerce Commission's interim decision to deny the full Commonwealth reques't for a rate increase.
The Illinois Commerce Commission's final decision regarding the Commonwealth request for rate increase is expected in March 1980.
At that time Commonwealth is expected to further consider the economic feasibility of completing construction of the Braidwood facility.
Currently, Unit No. 1 is about 50% and Unit No. 2 about 40% complete.
The employment of approximately 2000 construction workers will be immedi-ately affected by this action.
This matter is receiving considerable attention by the press.
The State of Illinois is abreast of these developments.
