PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION May 25, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE--PNO-79-125 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance.

The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

FACILITY: Tennessee Valley Authority Sequoyah, Unit Nos. 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-327 and 50-328 Chattanooga, Tennessee

SUBJECT:

STRESS ANALYSIS OF PIPING SUPPORTS This supplements PN079-122 'ated May 23, 1979.

d IE inspectors at the Tennessee Valley Authority design office reported that the incorrect analyses was limited to the Sequoyah Units and had not been utilized at other TVA facilities.

Indications are that the problem is readily correctable and that the plant schedule should not be affected.

The original analyses had been performed by the basic engineering company a vendor for TVA. Portions of some safety related systems were involved; however, most of the piping was of the two to four inch size.

With some 12 inch containment spray system piping.

Therc has been no media interest in the matter.

The State of Tennessee will be kept informed of developments.

Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this additional information by telephone from inspectors at the TVA office at 2:00 p.m. on May 24.
