Docket 70-2623 C NOTE TO:

Files FROM:

B. S. Spita':y Fuel Reprocessing and Recycle Branch

SUBJECT:

SUPPLEMENT TO NOTE DATED NOVEMBER 7,1978 DOCUMENTING ADDITIONAL CONVERSATIONS WITH DUKE POWER COMPANY '4174 REGARD TO EXPOSURE AND COST FIGURES FOR SHIPPING FUEL TO MCGUIRE Further conversations with the applicant have clarified the major portion of the discrepancies noted on November 7,1978.

Figures presented by Duke in the June 2,1978 study reflected a total number of 775 assemblies which at that time were being considered for shipment offsite. This total number of shipments was considered by the staff to include those shipments offsite to McGuire (300) plus the number of normally occurring intrastation shuffles between the Oconee pools.

Reevaluating the total exposure and cost as given in the study to reflect the limitation of 300 shipments, the resulting values are

.3 man-rem and $4000 per assembly respectively. These numbers now reflect a small change in exposure and a difference by a factor of two for cost. These differences will still be addressed by Duke.
