MANUAL ULTRASONIC EXAMINATION FOR THICKNESS AND LAMINAR TYPE DEFECTS IN PRESSURE VESSEL MATERIAL 3
SwRI-NDT-600-17 1.0 PURPOSE 5%j This procedure provides the technical informrtion and detailed steps I
necessary to ensure complete and accurate laminae % scan and thickness
[
asurements on pressure vessel shells, heads, and plate material in accordance g(withtheapplicableASMEBoilerandPress%eVesselCodes.
s 2.0 SCOPE AND APPLICATION
= +
Manual, contact, longitudinal-wave, straight-beam, pube-echo ultrasonic examination techniques shall be used to detect laminar type defects or provide additional thicknass measurements to aid in the interpretation of results of e
other examinations.
3
}
Pressure vessel material in the thickness range of 1.0 to 13 inches shall j
'be exantned as specified in the applicable SwRI Examination Plan or when addi-tional infor=ation is required for evaluation of other examinations.
