SEP 2 7 1979 Docket Nos.. 50-400/401/402/403 APPLICANT:
Carolina Power and Light Company
~~
FACILITY:
Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1, 2, 3 and 4
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 18, 1979, TO DISCUSS ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF SAFETY-RELATED CLASS IE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT A meeting was held on September 18, 1979, between Carolina Power and Light Company (CP&L) and the staff, at the applicant's request, to discuss environ-mental qualification of safety-related Class IE electrical equipment. An attendees list is enclosed.
The applicant stated that they plan to tender their application for an operating license for Shearon Harris in June 1980. They requested an oppor-tunity to discuss with the staff the CP&L proposed plan for documentation for environmental qualification of safety-related electrical equipment in their Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR).
A letter from CP&L dated September 17, 1979, was discussed.
In that letter the applicant stated that the description in their FSAR will list individual pieces of equipment, their location, the seismic and environmental envelope that it is or will be qualified to, the qualification method and the qualification results.
CP&L pointed out, that at the time of the filing of the FSAR, not all of the test data for all of the equipment will be avail-able. The testing program is ongoing and is anticipated to be completed in late 1981 and early 1982. All required test data will be available and on file prior to receiving the Operating License for the facility.
It is not CP&L's intention to provide all of the test data in the FSAR, but rather to specify the qualification envelope, method of qualification and qualifica-tion results and to provide only representative test data for NRC staff review. All other test data for individual pieces of equipment will be located in CP&L's files and available for audit.
We indicated that the proposed program seemed reasonable. CP&L was encouraged to consider use of IEEE Std. 323-1974 where possible in qualify-ing equipment.
For Shearon Harris both the '71 and '74 versions are being g 7 145 7910800 Mg 5 66 4
2-SEP 2 71979 utilized. CP&L was provided a draft copy of NUREG-0588, " Interim Staff Position on Environmental Qualification of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment *.
It war agreed that CP&L should not wait until their FSAR is submitted to again meet with the staff. As soon as they have a reasonable package put together, a meeting should be arranged with the staff to discuss that portion of their progrgm.
