MEMORANDUM FOR:

A. Schwencer, Chief, Operating Reactors Branch #1, D0R FROM:

G. Lainas, Chief, Plant Systems Branch, 00R

SUBJECT:

BEAVER VALLEY 1: EVALUATION OF THE ELECTRICAL, INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL (EI&C) ASPECTS OF THE DELETION OF REACTOR TRIP ON TURBINE TRIP BELOW 50 PERCENT POWER (TAC 11011)

In accordance with your request per TAC 11011, enclosed is the Plant Systems Branch Safety EvalvTtion Report pertaining to the Beaver Valley license amendment request for deletion of reactor trip on turbine trip below 50 percent power.

As indicated in the Safety Evaluation report we have concluded that the change is acceptable. However, this review was done prior to the B&O effort. T1e approval of this change may not be consistent with the B&O effort. Namely, that this modification deletes reactor trip on turbine trip below 50% power. We would recommend your holding the enclosed Safety Evaluation report pending completion of the B&O effort, and that the licensee be so notified.

In any event, we consider this TAC completed.
