The Walthousen Laboratory is funded by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a part of the Nuclear Engineering curriculum. The estimated annual costs for the Walthousen Laboratory amount to $25,000.
The estimated cost of eventual shutdown of the Facility, which will include dercalition of the buildings and dismantling and removal of the reactor structures, is $75,000 to $100,000.
Shutdown costs will be funded by RPI.
Nuclear liability insurance is covered under contract with American Nuclear Insurers, Farmington, Ct.
