Background:
The proposed rulemaking is being undertaken in response to the Commission's Memorandum and Order (CLI-80-21),
dated May 23, 1980, relating to the environrental qualification of electric equipment, including consideration of backfit.
Regulatory Guide 1.89 has been concurrently revised and contains methods acceptable to NRC Staff for r.eeting the Commission'a requirements for the environmental qualification of electric equipment important to safety.
In view of the aliove, the review of both docunents, Rulemaking and Regulatory Guide 1.89, should be accomplished concurrently. U90n publication of the effective rule and Regulatory Guide 1.89, the D0R Guidelines arf NUREG-0588 will be withdra'in.
