October 4, 1979 Docket No.: 50-322 Ms. Edna A. Staudenmaier Deputy Clerk Town of Southhampton Southhampton, Long bland, NY 11968
Dear Ms. Staudenmaier:
We have received your letter of May 24, 1979 transmitting the resolution of the Southhampton Town Board. The Board's resolution requested that we require LILC0 to "... conduct and complete a study of the feasibility and cost of converting the Shoreham Electric Power Generating Station from muclear (sic) to conventional or alternate fuel sources..."
This matter was part of our environmental review at the construction pennit stage for Shoreham. A summary of our evaluation of Alternative Energy sources is provided in the Final Environmental Statement - Construction Permit Stage dated September 1972. An update of our evaluation of Alter-native Energy Sources is summarized in the Final Environmental Statement -
Operating License Stage (NUREG-0285) dated October 1977.
These documents are available for public inspection at the Shoreham - Wading River Public Library, Route 25A, Shoreham, New York 11786.
With regard to the specific request, we have no authority to require LILC0 to perform a study on conversion of the Shoreham f acility to an alternate energy facility at this time.
Si ncerely, p<pS Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation 1207 200' 791ou40 7 00 D
