BIOGRAPHY of JOHN E. VAN H00MISSEN Or. John E. Van Hocmissen, President-General Electric Uranium Management Corporation, has been with the General Electric Company since 1956. His first assignment at the Idaho Test Station, Idaho Falls, was on the Aircraft Nuclear Propulsion Project as Senior Shielding Engineer, and later Manager of Engineering.

In 1962 he transferred to the Vallecitos Nuclear Centar where he held a series of positions ranging from Project Manager to Manager of the Nuclear Thermionic Power Operation.

In November, 1970, Dr. Van Hoomissen moved to the position of Manager-Nuclear Materials Management, in which position he was responsible for the direct accountability of special nuclear materials at all Nuclear Energy Division domestic and overseas locations.

In January,1973, he was appointed to the position of Manager-Special Fuel Programs.

In this position, in addition to his Nuclear Materials Management responsibilities, he had responsibility for Joint Manufacturing Company direction and surveillance at overseas locations.

In January,1974, Dr. Van Hoomissen became Manager-Nuclear Venture Development which later became a separate, wholly-owned subsidiary corporation in August of 1977 called the General Electric Uranium Management Corporation. As President, he is responsible for the operations of the corporation in pro-5 viding the enriched uranium resources necessary to satisfy the General Electric Nuclear Energy Business Group's requirements for the working inventory of the nuclear fuel manufacturing components and the natural U30g and enriched UF6 necessary to satisfy existing contracts between General Electric and elec-tric utilities. Included under his direction is the buying, selling and trading of natural and enriched uranium as necessary; the acquisition of rights to uranium are in the ground; the purchase of uranium ore; arrangement for the milling of ore into U30 ; and the negotiation and administration of existing 8

uranium enrichment contracts as well as the management of the facilities and personnel included in the corporation.

As of October 1,1979, Dr. Van Hoomissen also accepted the position of Manager-Spent Fuels Services Operation, a function carried in addition to his other responsibilities.

In this position, he manages all activities related to the Nuclear Energy Business Group's programs for the back-end of the fuel cycle, including operation of the facility near Morris, Illinois for storage of spent fuel. The Company's interests in shipping casks for spent fuel are also under his jurisdiction.

Dr. Van Hoomissen was born in Portland, Oregon and attended elementary and secondary school there, graduating from Columbia Preparatory School and coing on to the University of Portland, where he received his bachelor of science degree in physics in 1947. His master's and doctor's degrees in nuclear physics were awarded by the Univers'ty of Notre Came in 1951.
