American Nuclear Insurers ATTN: Mr. Roger T. Waitc Engineering Consultant The Exchange, Suite 245 270 Farmington Avenue Fannington, Connecticut 06032 Gentlemen:

This refers to your letter dated June 21, 1979, regarding the retention and storage of records resulting from activities at U. S. Nuclear, Inc.,

Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

It would not be feasible to transfer the U. S. Nuclear, Inc. records directly to ANI since ANI would not be legally bound, as is a licensee, to maintain the records as required by NRC regulations. There would be no objection to transferring the records from NRC to ANI after the regulatory requirements for maintaining the records have been met.

Practically, however, there may be some problems in assuring that this is done at some as yet unspecified future time.

It is possible that NRC will be willing to store the records through December 31, 1988.

If this is the case, I presume your problem might be solved and that you would have no objection to their discard after that date.

I will keep you advised by putting your name on the mailing list for any future correspondence we have with U. S. Nuclear, Inc. regarding the records.

Sincerely, N
