Enclosure HATCH 1
2 REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IES 79-08 Item No. 2 1.
Your response is incomplete in that it does not indicate the Tu have reviewed procedures to assure that containment isolatio,.
initiation is in conformance with ! tem No. 2 of IEB 79-08.
Verify that you have reviewed the required procedures or provide the schedule for completing that review.
2.
Your response indicates that the normal vent valves in Unit 2 are isolated on containment isolation signals.
Confirm that contain-ment isolation occurs on all lines not needed for safety features or cooling capability on all automatic initiations of safety injection.
3.
Your response is not clear regarding the Dtywell Vent and Purge System for each unit.
It appears that a procedure is required co have t i. e operator (who is stationed at the control panel) isolate this system upon automatic initiatior, of safety injection when this system is in use in Unit 1.
Provide the schedule for completion of any necessary procedural and/or design changes.
Item No. 4 1.
Describe other instrumentation which the operator might have to determine changes in reactor coolant inventory, e.g.,
drywell high
- pressure, radioactivity levels, suppression pool high temperature, containment su=p pump operation, etc.
Item No. 5 1.
Your response to item Sa and 5b does not addr:ss training instruc-titns.
Amend your response to address this matter.
2.
Provide a schedule for any actions on item 5 tbat have.i o t yet been completed.
Item No. 6 1.
Please augment your response to indicate the extent to which position and locking device checks are performed for locked safety system valves, kh9 b
Item No. 7 1.
Provide the basis for continued operability of the features used t'
prevent inadvertent transfer of radioactive gases and liquids out-side of containment.
2.
Verify that inadvertent transfer of radioactive gases from contain-ment will not occur on resetting engineered.nafety features instru-mentation.
Item No. 3 1.
It is not clear from your response that all involved reactor opera-tional personnel in the oncc ming shift are explicitly notified about the status of systems _emoved from ar returned to service.
Please indicate how this information is transferred at shift turnover.
Item No. 9 1.
Technical Specifications and other d o c ur: a n t s may not include all relevant notification cr;?eria required by item 9 of IES 79-08.
We note that, at this time, aucquate guidance cannot be given on what constitutes an event requiring one hour notification.
We will require a general statement corcerning reactor operation in an uncon-trolled or unexpected condition until sufficient experience is accumulated to warrant issuance of a specific set of notification criteria.
