Dear Mr. Hendrie:
i The 2'ecent events at the Three Mile Island Muclear Reactor have caused great concern among all Americans regarding the safety of nuclear generating facilities.
In Ohio, we have one such facility, Davis-Besse, currently in operation.
To ensure the safe operation of this tacility and others which t,
may be constructed in Ohio and to provide for thorough i
monitoring anc rapid natification, C 7vernor James Rhodes i
has created a Task Force on Nuclear Plant Safety.
In order to fully inform the Task Force in this area, I am requesting that you send us your comments on the following:
1.
Your opinion as to the adequacy of Davis-Besse staff training, safety and emergency procedures and your opinion of Davis-Besse's design, especially where there are similarities to the design of Three Mile Island.
2.
The system and procedures safety reviews you plan on conducting on Davis-Besse before it is put back into operation and on our two plants under cor truction in Ohio, i.e.,
Zimmer I and Perry I and II.
We request that this information be provided as quickly as possible.
We would welcome a briefing on these matters by a key member of your staff.
