Dear Mr. O'Reillv:

NRC letter of March 12, 1979 forwarded IE Bulletin 79-03 " Longitudinal Weld Defects in ASME SA-312 type 304 stainless steel pipe spools manuf actured by Youngstown Welding and Engineering Company."

Vepco letter- Serial No. 344 and 344A, Docket Nos. 50-339, 50-404, and 50-405 dated May 10, 1979 and June 11, 1979 respectively provided interim reports of the progress of our review for compliance with IE Bulletin 79-03.

At this time, we have completeu eur review with the following results:

I. Docket No. 50-339: North Anna Unit 2:

A. Review of items purchased by the Architect-Engineer, Stone and Webster Engineering Ccrporation:

1. Pipe and Fittings: Only the one installed fitting described in Vepto letter 344A referenced above was made from Youngstown material as referenced in IE Bulletin 79-03. This 10" schedule 40S 90 degree elbow, located in the Recirculation Spray System, has been radiographed in accordance with the requirements and acceptance criteria of ANSI B31.7 and found acceptable. One 20 f t. length of 12" schedule 40S type 304 SS pipe was located in the warehouse at '.he North Anna site in its full "as-procured" length.

This material has now been downgraded for use only in non-nuclear applications.

2. Otner Eqcipment: All other safe +v related equipment where Youngstown material could rue been used, has been reviewed and no Youngste an material was used.

B. Review of items manufactured / purchased by the Nuclear Steam Supply System Vendor, Westinghouse:

1. Primary System Components: A review of all pipe, fittings, nozzles, etc., purchased by Westinghouse has been completed and reveals that no Youngstown material was used.
2. Auxiliary Components Supplied by Westinghouse Vendors: This review har been completed and reveals that no Youngstown material was used.

II. Docket Nos. 50-404 and 59-405: North Anna Units 3 and 4:

A. P,eview of items purchased by the Architect-Engineer, Stone and Webster Engineering Corporation:

1. Pipe Fittings: A review of fabricated subassemblies, pipe and fittings has been completed and shows that no Youngstown material was used. Also, no Youngstown pipe or fittings made from Youngstown pipe are planned for use in Units 3 and 4. If at a later date such material is purchased, all Youngstown material will be 100% radiographically inspected in accordance with ASME Section III, paragraph NB 2553.

Material not meeting this criterlon will not be used.

2. Other Equipment: All other safety related equipment where Youngstown material could have been used, has been reviewed and no Youngstown material was used.

B. Review of items manuf actured/ purchased by the Nuclear Steam Supply System Vendor, Babcock and Wilcox (B&W);

1. Primary System Components: A revtew of all pipe, fittings, nozzles, etc. purchased by B&W has been completed and reveals that no Youngstown material was used.
2. Auxiliary Components Supplied by B&W Vendors:

This review has been completed and reveals that no Youngstown mate-ial was used.
