NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION p

WASHINGTON, D. C. 21555 O, t J

JW 2 019M Docket Nos. 50-445 and 50-446 Mr. R. J. Gary Executive Vice President and General Manager Texas Utilities Generating Company 2001 Bryan Towers Dallas, Texas 75201

Dear Mr. Gary:

SUBJECT:

SCHEDULE FOR SUBMITTAL OF ELECTRICAL, INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL DRAWINGS FOR COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 in our letter of February 28, 1979, we requested an updating of the electrical, instrumentation and control drawings listed in Section 1.7 of the Final Safety Analysis Report for Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station, Units 1 and 2.

We also suggested that you schedule the submittal of these drawings for a date corresponding to your response to the two " Requests for Additional Information" enclosed with our letter.

Your letter of May 31, 1979, submitting Amencent No. 6 to the Final Satety Analysis Report included responses to the majority of the above questions.

We understand you will complete your responses to these questions by a forthcoming amendment to be submitted about the end of July 1979.

However, our discussions with your staff leads us to understand that a significant number of the subject drawings are incomplete and still undergoing frequent revisions as the station design evolves.

On June 13, 1979, your representatives met with Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, to discuss the staff policies and priorities regarding the review of current construction permit and operating license appli-cations.

For Comar.che Peak, we do not have staff resources to undertake review of the subject electrical, instrumentation and control drawings in the inr:ediate future.

Mr. R. J. Gary g; e 01979 In view of the design status of these drawings and the lack of staff resources, we recommend that you delay the submittal of the electrical, instrumentaticn and control drawings until the end of calendar year 1979.

We expect that the suggested postponement in your submittal will result in a more efficient use of our resources for this portion of the operating license review.

We do not expect this postponament to impact your projected fuel loading schedule.

Should our priorities or staff resources change in a manner to alter our review schedule for the subject drawings, we will advise your staff.

Sincerely, J
