Dear Dr. Baer:
As you kr.ow, we have under review ycur thdated renewal applicatica for handling and disposal of special nuclear material (SNM) at your disposal facility located in the Hanford Reservation near RichlanJ, Washington (License No. 13-10042-01, Docket 27-48). License No. 13-10042-01 also presently licenses (1) operations at your disposal f acility located near Sheffield, Illinois; (2) reception and possession of sealed packages of source, byproduct, and special nuclear material in any state of the United States except Agreement States (as defined in Section 150.3(b),10 CFR 150); and (3) transportation of these sealed packages to authorized land burial sites for disposal. We intend--shoulu a satisfactory finding on your renewal application for SNM disposal at Richland be made by us--
to issue a new license numoer which will solely pertain to operations at the Richland site.
It is not clear to us whether you inter.d to continue receipt, posscssica, and transport of radioactive material in Non-Agreement States.
If so, you must promptly provide us with a separate updated renewal application which solely pertair.s to such activities.
If such an application is made by you, we intend to assign a new dockat number to this application and--following our review of the application and assuming a satisfactory finding by us--assign a new license numMr.
If wc do not receive your renewal application by June 29, 1979, we will ass ae that y:- do n:t wish to renew this part of the present License 13-10042-01.
We have received your updated criticality analysis for SNM waste in storace.
This; analysis is under review.
