SUMMARY

The reactor coolant system is r.:onitored for gross beta ga=a activity by counting an evaporated sample 15 minutes after sampling.

Changes in the activity are valuable aids in the determination of fuel rupture.

In cases of sudden increase in activity it is desirable to determine the isotopic composition by gama spectroscopy.

4.1 Pipet an appropriate volume of the sample into a planchet.

If the pipet is designated TC, rinse it twice with demineralized water into the planchet.

~

4.2 Dry under an infra-red lamp, uaol and count.

The sample nust be counted at + l minutes after completion of sampling.

Sample shculd be counte'd until 10,000 counts are accumulated or for 20 minutes, which ever is sooner.

Note that count should be at leEst I minute.

If the Grcss count rate is less than twice the background count ( h Y-A 4.3 rate.
