1950.1 Revision I 11/10/76 STATION CHEMISTRY PROCEDURE NO. 1950.1 l

Determination of Gross Alpha 1.0 SU.*: MARY This procedure is to be used for a quick screening of a sample to detect alpha. Where an accurate activity is desired use SCP 1962.

Gross alpha measurements are made on samples from the Reactor Coolant System and, under certain circumstances, on liquids prior to release to the environment.

Since alpha particles are readily absorbed by even icw density materials, self-absorption should be minimized by keeping the layer of samole as thin as possible.
